Learning and Development Specialist

Job Summary Department Summary: Michigan Dining comprises eighteen on-campus cafes and markets, ten residential dining halls, a line of Blue to Go foods, the Campus Bakeshop, and the Michigan Catering unit. Our 700 professional and 1,600 student employees are committed to creative, healthy, and nutritious foods, international cuisines, and sustainability throughout all dining operations. Position Summary: You will oversee all onboarding programs, safety training, and related departmental policies to maintain training compliance for all Dining professionals and bargained-for staff. Under general supervision, you will plan, develop, and implement methods for reviewing training needs and tracking requirements. In partnership with Learning & Development leadership, you will be responsible for educating, informing, and ensuring compliance with all required training for professional and bargained-for staff. Additionally, you will coordinate centralized and in-unit staff training efforts, review the effectiveness of training programs relative to learning outcomes, and assist with developing new, innovative approaches to MDining Learning & Development training initiatives. You will report to MDining's Learning & Development Lead and work in a hybrid capacity, working 3 days onsite in Ann Arbor and 2 days remotely. For a complete job description please click here. Responsibilities* Works with the Learning & Development Lead to minimize and elevate any training compliance gaps in the department for professional and bargained-for staff using existing and new approaches to drive staff training compliance. Collaborates with internal teams to gather feedback from staff stakeholders and leverage user feedback to enhance the effectiveness of compliance programs, including environmental health and safety, University policy tracking, and other required topics. Schedules training activities and classes to facilitate all professional and bargained-for staff training compliance. Maintains records of training activities and employee progress toward training compliance. Reviews training manuals, guides, and course materials to ensure compliance with all department-required training, procedures, and policies. Works with the Learning & Development Lead to standardize an annual departmental training schedule for all professional and bargained-for staff. Reviews all department training to ensure standards, guidelines, departmental policies, and processes are being adhered to for consistent and standardized approaches to training for professional and bargained-for staff. Facilitates sessions to train other facilitators on how to lead training including facilitation best practices, methods like adult learning theory, and other tools used to facilitate training to effectively train others. Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, instructional design, human resources, organizational development, education, or hospitality, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in a corporate environment. At least 2 or more years of experience in training or instructional design roles. Experience with facilitating and presenting. Experience in content development, workforce development, and training needs analysis. Experience in designing training materials, including manuals, presentations, and e-learning courses. Experience in assessing and evaluating training needs and the effectiveness of programs. Comfortable using digital tools and software for creating training content (e.g., PowerPoint, domiKNOW, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline). Familiarity with multimedia tools (video editing, graphic design software). ServSafe certification within 6 months. Why Work at Michigan? Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2026 or after, will not be eligible for the university FY26-27 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.
