Research Assistant (Zimetbaum Fellow)

Under supervision of the principal investigator, the assistant performs a variety of policy‑related research analyses and dissemination. Essential Responsibilities Conduct routine tests following established procedures, including assays, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, protein purification, Southern blotting, PCR analysis, electrophoresis, and chromatography. Research and collect basic study data through monitoring devices; maintain daily logs and basic records of methodologies and test results. With supervision, use databases to summarize data and interpret results using descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing. Perform literature searches and library investigations related to the research or as assigned. Show flexibility in performing principal duties as research projects evolve in a dynamic environment. Attend medical‑center lectures regarding all safety requirements and conditions; attend courses, lectures, and conferences to further knowledge of research. Demonstrate routine laboratory tasks to students and other research personnel. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related scientific field. 0–1 years of related work experience. Experience with computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access). Problem Solving: Ability to address routine, somewhat repetitive problems solved by following clear directions and procedures, and identify opportunities for process improvements. Written Communications: Ability to read and write in English to understand basic safety instructions, take direction from supervisors, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and other medical‑center staff. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English to follow basic safety instructions, take direction from supervisors, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical‑center staff in routine responses. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures and use them in routine situations; specialized knowledge is not required. Teamwork: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff, and external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner. Physical Nature Of The Job Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus. Pay Range $19.23 – $26.44 per hour. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage; actual compensation may vary based on seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, responsibilities, or other factors permissible by law.
