Civil Structural Engineer

Job Title Civil/Structural Engineer Location New York, United States Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join our forensic consulting team. The role involves investigating structural failures, providing expert analysis, and delivering solutions to clients in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Responsibilities Investigate the origin and cause of failures, damages, or defects in the civil/structural fields. Analyze building systems and determine causes of failures, evaluate construction quality, and review design or maintenance procedures. Participate in catastrophe responses (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildland fires, earthquakes). Conduct field investigations, lead multi‑party examinations, and document damaged property. Research failure modes and code requirements, and prepare recommendations for repair or remediation. Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining the causes and origins of damages for clients. Follow established policies, procedures, and processes, exercising sound judgment in complex situations, and submit reports in a timely manner. Provide expert testimony in a court of law if required. Manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on large and complex assignments. Establish trusted relationships with clients and engage socially at mixed engagements. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (state of employer preferred). 5–7+ years of design experience in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Experience with commercial and industrial facilities preferred. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills. Technical expertise in Microsoft Suite and CRM systems. 25–30% travel required. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity. Ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions. Ability to work at heights (roofs, scaffolding) requiring physical agility, balance, and resistance to acrophobia. Travel 25–30% travel is required, including site visits and client engagements. Compensation and Benefits The pay range for this position in NewYork is $125,000 to $150,000 annually, and may vary based on experience and skill level. A sign‑on bonus may be available, plus a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
