Job Title

The incumbent will be responsible for processing laboratory samples.

Primary Responsibilities

• Follow the instructions of the established procedures by the Laboratory Director and the Corporation in the handling of samples, reports, quality control, daily and preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Comply with the established standards of: safety, pathogens, regulation 120 of the Department of Health of PR, CLIA and "Quality Assessment".
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency samples are processed in the same way for each patient. Document these results obtained in the daily workbook.
• Process samples in all areas of the laboratory complying with Quality Control principles.
• Document quality controls and ensure that the obtained values are within the established range. If not, take the necessary corrective action, document it and inform the Laboratory Director.
• Daily record the temperatures, humidity and voltage in the corresponding register.
• Be responsible for ongoing quality control in hematology, urinalysis and corresponding areas.
• Process with the calibration and linearity of instruments every six months or when necessary.
• Inform when any reagent or material is about to expire or when the inventory is about to run out to the Laboratory Director.
• Be responsible for reporting all panic values to the corresponding physician and document it.
• Participate in the collection of samples, centrifuge and separate samples, clerical work, attend patients and guide them when necessary.
• Send the report of transmissible diseases to CLETS weekly.
• Process the parallel checks to the tests that require it.
• Edit the results in the LIS in the way that was instructed when necessary.
• Follow the rules of hygiene and universal protection.
• Document the maintenance carried out on laboratory equipment.
• If confronting any problem with the instruments notify the Laboratory Director to request the service to the corresponding company.

Experience and Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree completed in Medical Technology from an accredited institution in Puerto Rico.
• Current and valid license issued by the Examining Board.
• Active member of the College of Medical Technologists of Puerto Rico.
• Ability to perform different tasks even when changes have been notified in a short time.
• Have significant knowledge of the practices of their profession.
