Associate Vice President [Santa Ana / Los Angeles]

Iteris is looking for an Associate Vice President that seeks to join a talented group of professionals to promote thriving communities by applying innovative transportation planning, engineering and technology solutions to solve complex issues in transportation. You will work with all levels of public agency and private clients to make mobility safe, efficient and sustainable for everyone. Responsibilities will include project delivery, business development, and staff mentorship principally within our transportation planning practice as well as working with our engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) teams to support regional growth objectives. The successful candidate will have working experience and knowledge of the transportation industry in general and the planning discipline in particular at the state, regional, and local levels within California. What you will be doing: Client Relationship Leadership: Serve as the primary point of contact for senior leadership at Southern California public agencies Interagency Coordination: Navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional stakeholders and stakeholder groups to build consensus on regional corridors, active transportation networks, and transit projects Public Engagement Oversight: Support development and implementation of community outreach strategies that meet strict public agency equity metrics, ensuring meaningful engagement Pipeline Development: Identify, track, and capture upcoming public sector Requests for Proposals (RFPs) across Southern California counties Proposal Leadership: Serve as the Principal-in-Charge or Lead Strategist on major public sector pursuits, including writing technical approaches, structuring project teams, and leading interview preparation Teaming Strategies: Formulate strategic partnerships with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs), Small Business Enterprises (SBEs), and other subconsultants and prime consultants to meet public agency contract goals Ability to oversee and support preparation of long-range transportation plans, such as General Plan Circulation Elements, Active Transportation Plans (ATP), Complete Streets plans, Vision Zero/systemic safety plans, Senate Bill (SB) 743 compliance evaluations, transportation components of CEQA/NEPA documents analysis of multimodal transportation data Contract Negotiation: Negotiate complex scopes of work, fee structures, and contract terms directly with public agency procurement officers Project Financial Health: Accountable for the profitability, burn rates, and scheduling of a multimillion dollar portfolio of public sector projects Sub-consultant Management: Manage subconsultant progress, invoicing, and contract compliance throughout the lifecycle of public task orders Mentorship & Growth: Staff and mentor a team of mid-level and junior transportation planners and engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth Resource Allocation: Manage staff utilization rates and workload balance across the Southern California planning practice Industry Representation: Represent the firm at key regional industry organizations such as ITE, WTS, APWA, APA California, and local university transportation forums and research centers What you need to be successful in this role: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) within Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, Electrical Engineering, or related field Professional Engineer (PE) or Traffic Engineer (TE) licensure, Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) desired At least ten(10) years as a demonstrated expert in the transportation planning industry At least five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role. Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams is preferred At least five (5) years' experience in business development within the Transportation Planning industry Successful track record of public sector client service Strong leadership and communications skills to interact with both internal staff and externally with clients and regulatory agencies Understanding of state, regional, or local transportation industry in general with a strategic market understanding of trends affecting the future of transportation. Knowledge and experience within California is preferred Familiar with tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc. Iteris anticipates paying a base salary between $118,000 and $210,000 for this role. Actual pay offered may be below or above these amounts, depending on the individual’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
