Director, Compliance Business Partner

Director, Compliance Business Partner – Vertex Lead compliance initiatives for Vertex’s Commercial, Medical and Public Affairs teams, overseeing policies, training, risk monitoring, and investigations while advising senior leadership and cross‑functional teams on regulatory matters. Responsibilities Provide oversight, guidance, and direction for business initiatives to mitigate legal and reputational risk. Act as the Compliance representative on leadership and cross‑functional teams, offering strategic and tactical advice. Collaborate with the OBIE Training and Communications team to develop and deliver substantive trainings and communications on compliance policies. Maintain current knowledge of U.S. and global laws, regulations, codes, and enforcement actions; educate colleagues with tailored communications and training. Develop and sustain strong relationships with Legal, Human Resources, Internal Audit, and other functional partners across the U.S. and international locations. Establish standards and implement procedures to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the Global Compliance program. Support continuous improvement of Vertex’s Global Compliance program through audit findings, process reviews, and initiative leadership. Qualifications 8–10 years of post‑JD experience providing legal counsel in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, including in‑house and/or law‑firm experience. Law degree and substantive legal experience highly preferred. Advanced knowledge of FDA regulations, the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, anti‑kickback statutes, the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, OIG guidance, the PhRMA Code, and related industry guidance. Demonstrated commitment to compliance, ethics, and accountability. Excellent oral and written communication; ability to present tailored advice to senior management and employees. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). Capability to analyze large data sets. Willingness to travel as needed. Team‑oriented, proactive, and pragmatic in cross‑functional collaboration. Self‑starter with demonstrated leadership and ability to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations. Compensation Base salary range: $200,000 – $300,000, with eligibility for annual bonus and equity awards.
