Social Worker V (CSAC/DL/PO), SR-24* – Wailuku, Maui Recruitment Number 26-092LJ – Salary rate effective July 1, 2026. Position Overview This position serves as a probation officer and requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. The role is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the operational activities of the Drug Court section while providing supervision, consultation, and training to professional staff assigned to the program. Responsibilities Oversee case assignments and service delivery; review case records, staff recommendations, and compliance with court orders. Guide staff in case planning and use of community resources; monitor deadlines and program requirements. Conduct staff training and section meetings; evaluate employee performance; address complaints or personnel issues. Coordinate and collaborate with federal, state, county, and private agencies in support of Drug Court clients and program objectives. Participate in inter‑agency meetings, training, and program‑related activities that may occur outside normal business hours and office settings. Drive, fly, or use ferry transportation as needed, including commuter air or ferry services. Professional Certification Requirement Applicants must possess a valid Substance Abuse Counselor Certificate (CSAC) issued by the State of Hawaii, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. Certified personnel in states that subscribe to IC&RC international standards and hold an equivalent credential may also apply. Education Requirement Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related social sciences. Substitution of experience for education is allowed on a year‑for‑year basis. Specialized Experience Three and one‑half (3‑1/2) years of progressively responsible professional social work experience involving assessment, development and implementation of treatment plans, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evaluation of client progress. Substitution Allowed A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker II or six (6) months of experience. A master’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker III or one and one‑half (1‑1/2) years of experience. A Ph.D. degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker IV or two and one‑half (2‑1/2) years of experience. Non‑Qualifying Experience Experience providing supportive services to professional social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, housing managers, or other professional workers in public welfare, family court, etc. Experience determining eligibility for public welfare benefits such as medical assistance or food stamps. Experience providing vocational, educational, psychological, or pastoral counseling. Experience providing occupational or physical therapeutic services. Peace Corps or VISTA work experience that did not require the application of professional knowledge of social work. Experience relocating clients displaced due to urban renewal or similar reasons. Trainee‑level type social work experience not performed under competent professional supervision. Driver’s License Requirement Current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Probation Officer Position Manage a caseload of clients adjudicated for law violations or status offenses, working under court supervision, providing services, monitoring compliance. Engage in collaborative casework with clients having serious mental health issues, family conflict, extensive legal histories, behavioral problems, and drug or alcohol abuse.
