We work in some of the world’s hardest-to-reach places – over 100 countries, including the U.S. No matter what your role is, when you join Save the Children, you’re creating positive, irreversible change for children, and the future we all share.The RoleThe Child Protection Team leads Save the Children’s efforts across a range of child protection issues, specifically, issues of children without appropriate care (CWAC), family strengthening, children on the move and counter trafficking in persons, preventing violence against children and Child labor, and providing critical protective services for children impacted by emergencies. One core element of this work is Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), delivered through the support of case management, specialized mental health referral systems, counselling programs, and our signature psychosocial support program HEART (Healing and Education through the Arts).As the Senior Advisor, Child Protection, you will provide technical support for Save the Children’s Child Protection and MHPSS programs. This will include contributing to strategic directions and plans, developing and maintaining key external partnerships, maintaining links with other departments to strengthen and expand our approaches for supporting children’s psychosocial well-being. In this role, you will provide technical assistance to country offices to develop, implement, improve, and evaluate Child Protection and MHPSS programming.LocationHybrid – Washington DC, Fairfield, CT or Lexington, KY office locationsWhat You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)*not inclusive of all role responsibilities. May be subject to changeTechnical Assistance (70%)In collaboration with the Child Protection Team, the MHPSS Team, and Country Offices:Draw on lessons learned across countries and contexts to inform Child Protection and MHPSS program designProvide technical assistance to program teams, assisting with complex problems and bringing multi-country perspectivesLead the development of context-specific Child Protection and MHPSS strategiesProvide assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation support to country officesBuild capacity of country offices and other sector staff to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate quality programsProgram learning and internal/external representation (10%)Monitor new developments in Child Protection and MHPSS programming, management, and evaluation to ensure that program teams apply best practicesElevate the importance of Child Protection and MHPSS with internal and external stakeholdersPrepare and present relevant research at thematic conferencesLiaise with key partner agencies, task forces and working groups as appropriateResource Mobilization/Management (10%)Support new/existing relationships with key donors (headquarters and regional/country level) and relevant SC colleaguesContribute to agency knowledge and decision-making concerning pursuit of funding opportunitiesLead the development and submission of high-quality Child Protection proposalsLead the development of donor reports and related assetsKnowledge Management (10%)Support country offices to develop case studies, reports, and other multi-media documentation of program innovation and successesLiaise with communications teams within Save the Children and our partners to share multi-media assets and support local, regional, and global advocacyRequired qualifications for the roleMinimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, child protection, or related field or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of experience in direct implementation of MHPSS programming with children and/or families, or other relevant experiencePrevious work with INGOs, CSOs, or UN agenciesDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of key MHPSS, Child Protection, Humanitarian Assistance, and Global Development issues including disaster response, humanitarian assistance, conflict affected populations, and other related areasProven experience providing technical support and management MHPSS and/or broader focused Child Protection programsDemonstrated knowledge of public and private funding streams, including key donors such as US Government fundingProven experience in program design and proposal development for private foundations, bi- and/or multilaterals, and/or US Government fundingDemonstrated knowledge of development and humanitarian crisis impact on children’s protection, health, education, and overall well-beingWillingness and ability to travel approximately 40% of the time, often to complex and difficult environmentsProfessional proficiency in MS Office suiteProfessional proficiency in spoken and written EnglishPreferred qualifications for the rolePrevious emergency response or humanitarian experience is preferredSecond language proficiency - Spanish, Arabic, French or other relevant languagesCompensationSave the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $119,425 - $133,475 base salary Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $107,525 - $120,175 base salary Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $96,050 - $107,350 base salary The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.
