About the Position

Job Title: Oncology Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty required License: Compact or state license in hand upon submission Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Epic experience required Description: Please ensure the traveler is aware of the following: Upon accepting an assignment and starting the role, the unit manager may assign the nurse to an emergency team. There will be an expectation to stay at the facility until after the event passes or be part of the relief team. Specific details pertaining to pay will be relayed during each emergency event, as impacts may vary. By signing the travel contract to take a position, the traveler accepts the above and will report as assigned by the unit manager if an emergency event occurs. Travelers should not apply for this role if they are not comfortable with the above. Unit highlights include welcoming first-time travelers. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Experience with Epic is required. There may be a floating requirement and weekend coverage every other weekend. The patient population includes hematology, medical oncology, bone marrow transplant, gynecologic and surgical oncology. The unit features a 7-bed positive pressure wing for bone marrow transplant and acute leukemia patients. Bedside CVC placements and bone marrow biopsies are performed. Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps integrated with Epic, barcode medication administration, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps. Preferred certifications include ONS. Skills required include: Accessing and managing ports. Administration of chemotherapy. Blood product administration. Central line blood draw. Colostomy and ileostomy management and care. CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident) management. Feeding tube care and management. Heparin and insulin management. Interpretation of dysrhythmias. Isolation precautions and PPE. IV insulin protocols. Management of dysrhythmias. Medical and surgical nursing. Monitoring chemotherapy patients. Telemetry nursing. Nasal cannula and PCA care. Peripheral line care and management. Phlebotomy. PICC line management. Post angiogram and post cardiac surgery care. Pre and post hemodialysis management. Pre and post neurosurgery care. Management of renal failure. Management of spinal cord injury. Starting and maintaining IVs. Telemetry monitoring, both on the unit and remotely. Management of traumatic brain injury. Use of rapid response and code teams. The unit has interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. The patient population primarily includes individuals with cancer diagnoses and treatment, hematology, medical oncology, bone marrow transplant, and gynecology-oncology surgical patients. Special procedures performed include chemotherapy infusion and bone marrow transplant. Medical and surgical nursing experience is required. Seven beds are designated for positive pressure wing patients, including bone marrow transplant and severe leukemic patients. Special equipment includes Alaris IV pumps with interoperability, barcode scanning for patients and medications, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps.
