MH Recovery Counselor

Job Details Location: Jawonio Inc - NEW CITY, NY 10956 Position Type: Full Time Salary: $62,353.00 per year Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct individual and group counseling/teaching by facilitating personalized recovery-oriented services curriculum. Provide ongoing counseling/therapy and support related to mental health impairments tailored to each participant. Coach and use motivational techniques to help consumers develop to their potential. Utilize psychiatric rehabilitation techniques for readiness determination, goal setting, functional and resource assessment, service planning, skill and resource development, and discharge planning. Collect, organize, and analyze information about participants through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for recovery planning. Complete all mandated reporting requirements by Jawonio and regulating agencies, including quarterly service plans, individual and group progress notes, progress/incident/discharge reports, Medicaid required reports, and agency related documentation. Ensure appropriate safeguards for participants are developed and maintained; report unique or emergency medical conditions to program nurses and PROS management. Participate in a team approach, attending all staff meetings and mentoring new staff. Model appropriate social and work skills, and provide crisis intervention as assigned/needed when a participant experiences difficulties. Accompany participants on trips outside the agency or to drive participants to and from meetings. Communicate and work with participants, their families, and professional staff (both internal and external) to ensure participant growth and recovery. Attend interdisciplinary and team conferences and special meetings both in and outside of the agency to determine appropriate programs and recovery plans. Provide individual and group coverage for program participants as needed when other PROS staff are unavailable. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment and work area. Qualifications A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or four years of related experience working with people with mental illness, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write comprehensive reports and documentation; and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Proficiency in basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rate, ratio, percent, and interpreting bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet software; no supervisory responsibilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff and clients. Physical ability to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds and to stand, sit, walk, and perform tasks requiring hand use, reach, and hearing. Daily access to a personal automobile and a valid NY State Driver’s License (preferred). Ability to remain current on all OMH and agency required trainings; clear and maintain an acceptable record under NYS Justice Center, NYS OMH mandated criminal background check, and Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance processes. Ability to work a regular schedule Monday–Friday 8:30a.m.–4:00p.m. or 9:00a.m.–4:30p.m., with flexibility for meetings, events, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Additional Requirements Physical demands include occasional lifting and moving up to 10 pounds, close, distance, peripheral, and depth visual perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently stands and sits and may walk, use hands, and reach with arms.
