Job Summary (List Format) Senior Data Engineer (DHHS-ITD, Azure Synapse Analytics)

- Lead the development and optimization of end-to-end data engineering solutions using Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics for the Child Welfare Program.
- Design, develop, and maintain data models in Synapse to support reporting and analytics needs.
- Build and optimize ETL solutions using Azure Synapse Analytics Pipelines and dedicated SQL pools, particularly for extracting, transforming, and aggregating data from Salesforce and other sources.
- Analyze source systems and design effective ETL data loads.
- Create and configure Azure Synapse Analytics workspaces and pipelines (including Linked Services, Datasets, and Pipelines).
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain data architecture and pipelines to ensure performance, accessibility, and security.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, design data visualizations, and train users on Power BI self-service tools.
- Ensure data security, accessibility, and optimal performance in all developed solutions.
- Apply advanced programming skills (Python or Scala) and strong SQL expertise for data processing and query optimization.
- Utilize experience in data modeling (star/snowflake schemas), warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Leverage knowledge of cloud data platforms, especially Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and Azure SQL Database.
- Stay current with modern data architecture tools and techniques, including familiarity with Power BI, event streaming (Event Hubs, Azure Stream Analytics), and cloud platforms (Azure and AWS).
