RN Charge/Supervisor

Promotes and restores patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area. Directs and develops staff while collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional teams. Provides physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and families. Accomplishes nursing human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Communicates job expectations and plans, monitors, and appraises job contributions. Recommends compensation actions while adhering to policies and procedures. Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews. Implements production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards. Resolves problems and identifies system improvements. Maintains nursing financial standards by providing annual budget information and monitoring expenditures. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others in a position to understand service requirements. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting nursing philosophies and standards of care. Enforces adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and other governing agency regulations. Meets health outcomes against standards and makes or recommends adjustments. Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing staff and following up on work results. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching and counseling patients, friends, and families. Provides information to patients and healthcare team by answering questions and requests. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations. Calls for assistance from other healthcare professionals when necessary. Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols. Enforces medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information. Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records. Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability. Completes preventive maintenance requirements by following manufacturer's instructions. Troubleshoots malfunctions and calls for repairs while maintaining equipment inventories. Evaluates new equipment and techniques as necessary. Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports and anticipating needed supplies. Approves requisitions and cost allocations as needed. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications. Establishes personal networks and participates in professional societies. Maintains a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information and responding to requests. Builds rapport and participates in team problem-solving methods. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests. Explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
