Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II (Night Shift, United States of America) is responsible for medication administration and implementing comprehensive respiratory care. The role involves delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem‑patient scenarios, primarily within critical care areas. Duties include protocol ventilator management, independent decision‑making, and coordination of staff development activities. The RT II also provides education to patients, families, and new employees, and addresses the biological, emotional, and developmental needs of patients. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides customer service through patient care, documentation, and education. Promotes a team approach to service and fosters a positive work environment. Supports students and staff in a collaborative setting. Performs patient assessment and therapy planning. Collaborates with the health‑care team in care planning. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Manages ventilators, weaning, waveform interpretation, and airway management, including intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care. Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, Cardiac Service procedures, and Pulmonary Diagnostic Testing. Promotes accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Maintains high levels of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.). Supports performance improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice. Reviews and implements revised and new DPPs. Completes additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred). Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support or ARC‑PALS – American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS‑I – PALS – Instructor NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program or ARC‑NALS – American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support or NRP‑I – NRP – Instructor or NRP‑P – NRP‑Provisional (180 Days) NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist or RCP – Respiratory Care Professional Required Minimum Experience and Skills 0–2 years of clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Strong critical‑thinking and decision‑making abilities. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other professionals. Computer proficiency, including familiarity with databases.
