Platform Engineer (FedD200/ FedD201/ FedD202)

Responsibilities

• Act as the link between custom, commercial, or open-source applications and the Navy platform environment.
• Help application teams integrate, package, secure, deploy, and operate software on UDS and Kubernetes-based environments.
• Evaluate solutions to complex technical problems spanning multiple technical domains.
• Implement infrastructure as code and contribute to building and maintaining Kubernetes clusters.
• Support cloud-native deployments, secure coding practices, vulnerability remediation, CI/CD components, runner deployments, observability, and process automation.
• Troubleshoot application and platform issues involving source code, APIs, containers, runtime dependencies, and deployment requirements.
• Collaborate with application teams, platform teams, external teams, and other stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineers through pairing, technical guidance, or code reviews.

Requirements

• Professional experience developing, deploying, supporting, or operating production applications or platform environments.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, containers, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes-based environments, or related deployment systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix skills and ability to troubleshoot across application and platform layers.
• Experience with application architectures, source code, APIs, containers, runtime dependencies, or deployment requirements.
• Experience with YAML-based configuration, including Kubernetes manifests, Helm configuration, CRDs, or deployment pipelines.
• Familiarity with application, API, container, and cloud-infrastructure security practices and vulnerability remediation.
• Strong problem-solving, independent-work, collaboration, and adaptability skills.
• Eligibility to apply for and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 IAT II certification.
• Preferred: expertise in full-stack application development, Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, Tofu, AWS, Go, or related technologies.
• Preferred: production Kubernetes experience with EKS, RKE2, or similar distributions and experience with APIs and backend services.
• Preferred: experience with C#/.NET, Python/FastAPI, React, Vue, or NGINX-hosted applications.
• Preferred: experience with Helm, GitOps, observability, distributed architectures, security automation, or everything-as-code practices.
• Preferred: active U.S. government clearance or current DoD 8570 IAT II certification, Department of Defense experience, production ATO systems, UDS Core, Iron Bank, or C-ATO processes.
