Job Title Computer Specialist (Software) – Database Engineer/Reporting Specialist (ID 775615) Hiring Organization Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH), City of New York Work Location 66 John Street, New York, N.Y. Job Summary The IT Department is hiring a Database Engineer/Reporting Specialist to provide strategic and day‑to‑day database and reporting support for the Agency’s primary adjudications systems. The role focuses on advanced performance tuning in Microsoft SQL Server and supports multiple database platforms including Azure SQL Database, MongoDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Responsibilities Manage, optimize, and support diverse database environments across development and production systems. Perform advanced performance tuning and address bottlenecks to ensure database performance, scalability, and reliability. Design and maintain ETL workflows using SQL Server Integration Services. Develop reports through SQL Server Reporting Services. Collaborate with development and QA teams on data validation, test data preparation, and overall software quality initiatives. Leverage automation testing tools such as Selenium or Cypress for QA processes. Eligibility Only candidates currently serving in a NYC agency as a permanent Computer Specialist (Software) or who are reachable on the NYC civil service list may apply. Eligibility for Placement in Assignment Level IV requires one year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in data administration, database management, operating systems, data communications, capacity planning, or online application programming. Qualifications (1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related field, and two years of full‑time software experience in design, programming, debugging, maintenance, implementation, and enhancement of computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including one year as a project leader or major contributor on a complex project. (2) A four‑year high school diploma or its equivalent and six years of full‑time software experience as described in (1), including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project. (3) A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to (1) or (2). College education may substitute for up to two years of the required experience in (2) on the basis that sixty semester credits from an accredited college equates to one year of experience. A master’s degree in computer science or a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience in (1) or (2). All candidates must have a four‑year high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full‑time software experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project. To have experience accepted as Project Leader or Major Contributor, the applicant must explain in detail how the experience qualifies. Experience in computer operations, technical support, quality assurance, hardware installation, help desk, or as an end user is not accepted for meeting the minimum qualification requirements.
