Meter Technician

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for full consideration.Our Core ValuesWe LOVE DeSoto •L- We lift up our community •O- We take ownership of our collective performance •V- We value and respect all employees •E- We empower employees to growSpecific Duties and ResponsibilitiesConducts reading and re-reading of meters by operating handheld reading devices, exposing buried meters, accurately reading and recording usage, responding to requests to repeat readings, testing for leaks, explaining how to read meters, re-reading meters if needed, notifying customers of leaks, connecting and disconnecting meters, and downloading readings.Checks for addresses with zero consumption by testing meters, verifying readings, checking hoses, and changing meters, if required.Maintains meters and automated meter reading devices by replacing broken meters, repairing water leaks by meters, repairing or replacing broken meter parts, installing or repairing automated meter reading devices, and raising or lowering meter boxes.Monitors condition of meters and connections by inspecting them for defects, damage, or unauthorized connections, reporting unusual readings or illegal use of water to the supervisor; and performing minor maintenance and repair, such as cleaning dials, changing out meters, disconnecting meters, raising meters, or sealing meters; andPerform other assigned duties.QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentA minimum of one (1) year of experience in the installation, removal, calibration, repair, and testing of water meters and in the programming and troubleshooting of AMI equipment;Equivalent training, education, and/or experience; andValid Driver's License.Supplemental InformationKnowledge of principles and practices related to water meter installation, calibration, reading, maintenance, repair, and testingKnowledge of AMI systems, AMI meters and programming equipmentKnowledge of standard safety processes, work gear and proceduresAbility to analyze and organize data, and prepare reportsAbility to operate personal computers, laptops and tablets and utilize common office software programsAbility to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officialsEmployee Benefit InformationHealth Insurance- BCBSDental Insurance- BCBSVision Insurance - EyeMed InsightFlexible Spending - PayflexEmployees can set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for yearly out of pocket medical expenses.
