Headquartered in McLean, VA, By Light supports defense, civilian, and commercial IT customers worldwide.Position OverviewThe Senior Systems Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, development, and execution of delivery orders (DOs), contributing both as a technical leader and hands-on engineer. This individual will be responsible for guiding systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements development through testing, verification, and final delivery.This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and government stakeholders and may involve occasional travel to customer sites or test events. A hybrid work environment is possible when not required to be on-site for customer meetings or test events. The program reserves the right to require on-site work if program execution and success dictates.This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.ResponsibilitiesLead and support the development of delivery orders (DOs) from initiation through completion on military simulation system applicationsAnalyze, decompose, and define systems-level requirements aligned with customer needsDesign system architectures and ensure integration across multiple subsystemsDevelop and execute system verification and validation plansCoordinate and participate in milestone testing events with government customersCoordinate, develop, and deliver technical CDRL documentation in accordance with project DD-1423 and DID requirementsCoordinate and direct project staff to develop operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting scenariosEnsure technical performance, quality, and compliance with contractual requirementsCollaborate with cross-functional teams including software, graphics, and program managementServe as the primary technical interface with customers, stakeholders, and end users — building and maintaining relationships throughout the project lifecycleOrganize and conduct integration events, technical briefings, and planning events for audiences ranging from instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to requirements owners and program leadershipIdentify risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the system lifecycleProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineersRequired Experience/QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related disciplineDemonstrated experience with systems engineering lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, test, and verification)Experience with AGILE developmentCertified Scrum Product Owner or Certified Scrum Master is a plusExperience with development in high fidelity game engines (Unity Preferred)MS Office applications including MS ProjectExperience working with government customers and understanding of DoD acquisition processesStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to lead technical efforts and manage competing prioritiesPreferred Experience/QualificationsExperience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologiesFamiliarity with systems engineering standards (e.g., INCOSE, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288)Prior experience supporting defense or aerospace programsSpecial Requirements/Security ClearanceAbility to obtain a Security ClearanceJob SummaryID: 2026-11139# of Openings: 1Category: Systems SupportClearance: Tier 3 - Secret/ADP II
