About this Opportunity:
This position effectively builds, repairs, and troubleshoots new and existing tooling and gauges with minimum supervision in order to maintain superior operating efficiency, resulting in quality product.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively build new tooling, dies, fixtures, and gauges from blueprints within established standards and customer specifications with minimum supervision.
- Effectively repair and troubleshoot existing tooling, dies, and fixtures to blueprint specifications within established standards with minimum supervision, operating the production equipment when necessary (press, feeder, straightener, etc.).
- Properly analyze and provide input when troubleshooting tooling.
- Efficiently design and build some small tools and fixtures to blueprint specifications and established standards.
- Effectively function as project leader, as required.
- Accurately inspect own work to verify quality using a variety of measurement equipment.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records and update changes in accordance with established shop standards.
- Ensure on-time deliveries within specified design parameters and tooling budgets.
- Efficiently analyze and improve machining methods to reduce costs and improve quality.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment by following 6S standards.
- Properly follow all H&M procedures and policies.
- Use the correct personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as JHAs and job descriptions. Protective footwear must comply with ASTM F2413 and F2412 standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, including the Idea System.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
- High school diploma or vocational technical school diploma preferred.
- Five years of experience as a State of Connecticut Tool and Die Maker Journeyman is preferred, along with experience building and troubleshooting progressive dies.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, part drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic trigonometry and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Availability to work Saturday mornings when required.
- State of Connecticut Tool and Die Journeyman certification preferred.
