Senior Grants Accountant

Senior Grant Accountant – Finance and Administration Team Under the direction of the Grant & Partnership Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for managing SDOT's grant accounting functions, preparing federal and state billing reports, and ensuring compliance with grant regulations. Job Responsibilities Prepare complex financial accounting reports and schedules. Submit accurate, timely reimbursement requests and invoices for Federal and State grants. Ensure billing complies with applicable regulations such as Uniform Guidance CFR Part 200. Review and reconcile grant expenditures against supporting documentation prior to billing grants. Monitor expenses for allowability. Track accounts receivable for grant billings and follow up on outstanding reimbursements. Maintain detailed billing schedules and supporting documentation for audit readiness. Submit financial reports to required funding agencies. Collaborate with Program Managers to ensure expenditures align with grant objectives. Record grant‑related transactions in the general ledger and ensure proper cost allocation. Reconcile grants and resolve discrepancies between internal records and funding agency reports. Stay current on federal and state grant regulations and compliance requirements. Design and develop queries, macros, and complex spreadsheets from downloaded data. Prepare portions of, analyze, and review the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Develop and modify internal accounting control policies, procedures, and practices. Coordinate financial audits with independent auditors, prepare supporting work papers, and implement audit recommendations. Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field with at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter units) in accounting. Three years of professional experience in general or governmental accounting. Preferred or beneficial qualifications: Experience with an ERP financial reporting system similar to the City’s PeopleSoft 9.2. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Access, and Word. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards; CPA and/or CGFM preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proactive problem‑solving with sound judgment. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, and handle unexpected requests. Work Environment Hybrid work arrangement: minimum 3 days in a City office, 2 days remote per week. Salary Range $48.07–$55.96 hourly.
