Project Researcher, Growth for Strawberries from New Technologies (KAMUT Project)

Role and Salary The KAMUT project seeks a Project Researcher to develop new growth substrates and pilot their suitability for strawberry cultivation, including automated irrigation systems and resource‑efficient hydroponic techniques. The researcher will be hosted by the Department of Technical Physics at the UEF Kuopio campus in the Computational Physics and Inverse Problems research group. The position is a fixed term from 15 April 2024 to 31 August 2026 and is funded by the European Commission Just Transition Fund (JTF). Salary is determined by the Finnish university system: a job‑related component of EUR2,225/month and a personal component of 6–50 % of that amount, giving an approximate total of EUR2,580–2,710/month at the start. Responsibilities Design, implement and test measurement and control systems for hydroponic techniques. Build mathematical models for the physical environment to be controlled. Design, implement and test a farming system consisting of sensors, electronics, controls and actuators. Measure the physical properties of growth substrate materials. Requirements and Expectations Master’s degree in engineering, physics or applied mathematics. Good written and spoken English skills; Finnish proficiency not required. Programming skills (advantage).
