Overview
The Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM) is an innovative public STEMM school opening July 2026 for students
in 6 and 9 grade and growing to 6 through 12 grade over the next four years. Through a unique partnership
with Grady Health System, AIM provides students with rigorous academic preparation grounded in science,
technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine, while offering authentic exposure to healthcare careers and
real-world applications of learning. Through this partnership, AIM students engage in experiential learning
opportunities that connect classroom instruction to clinical, research, and community-based medical environments.

This position ensures that students with disabilities receive high-quality, specially designed instruction and
appropriate supports and services in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section
504, and Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) regulations. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for
the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring access to
the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment (LRE). The teacher collaborates with general
education teachers, families, and related service providers to meet each student’s academic, behavioral, and
social-emotional needs.

Requirements:Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence & STEMM Integration
- Develop, implement, and revise Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the
- multidisciplinary team.
- Provide direct, specially designed instruction to address students’ IEP goals and objectives.
- Modify and adapt instructional methods, materials, and assessments to ensure meaningful access to the
- general education curriculum.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons aligned with the Georgia
- Standards of Excellence (GSE).
- Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain documentation of student growth toward IEP goals.
- Support the use of assistive technology and adaptive materials to enhance learning.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education requirements and school procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of IEPs, service logs, progress reports, evaluation reports, and parent
- communication.
- Facilitate and participate in IEP, eligibility, and review meetings with families and team members.
- Ensure service delivery and instructional practices are consistent with the IEP and LRE requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the legal rights of students with disabilities and their families.
- Support Child Find activities, referrals, and evaluations in collaboration with school leadership and the district.
Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction
- Conduct and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine eligibility, instructional needs, and progress
- toward IEP goals.
- Administer required state and local assessments, including accommodations and modifications as documented in
- the IEP.
- Maintain accurate student data records and contribute to the school’s accountability and continuous improvement
- processes.
- Analyze individual, classroom, and schoolwide data to identify strengths, needs, and intervention priorities.
Professional Collaboration and Growth
- Participate actively in grade-level, department, and special education team meetings.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers to promote inclusion
- and equitable practices.
- Engage in professional learning to remain informed about changes in special education law, instructional
- strategies, and compliance expectations.
- Reflect on professional practice, seek feedback, and demonstrate a growth mindset toward continuous
- improvement.
- Support and mentor paraprofessionals, interns, or new staff as assigned.
Family and Community Engagement
- Maintain regular, open, and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress
- and services.
- Encourage parent participation in the IEP process and foster collaborative relationships that support student
- success.
- Participate in family nights, conferences, and community outreach activities to promote awareness of inclusive
- education.
- Represent the school positively in interactions with families, agencies, and community partners.
Collaboration & School Culture
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues and school leadership to support student success, strengthen instructional
- alignment, and contribute to a cohesive middle and high school program.
- Contributes to a positive, joyful, and rigorous school culture by promoting wellness, student engagement, and
- community-building through consistent routines and schoolwide programming.
Student Development & Mentorship
- Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions and supports consistent with students’ IEPs and
- Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Collaborate with school counselors, behavior specialists, and related service providers to design and deliver
- social-emotional and behavioral supports.
- Promote positive behavior, self-regulation, and student agency through proactive, restorative approaches.
- Support the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework by providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- and progress monitoring data.
- Supervise and train paraprofessionals assigned to support students with disabilities.
Perform additional duties as may be assigned or required by the CEO, Governing
Board, or applicable federal or state requirements.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid Georgia teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain one) in Secondary (6-12) Education
- (preferred).
- A minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience.
- Proven commitment to high academic standards and student success, particularly for students
- from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred
- Experience in project-based learning (PBL) or integrating interdisciplinary STEM/STEMM concepts.
- Experience teaching high quality, cohesive interdisciplinary units such as IB or EL Education.
- Experience with dual enrollment models or college-level curriculum preparation.
- A strong understanding of using data for student improvement
- A desire to contribute to building a school model from the ground up.
