Job Title: Quality Lab Technician Job Description

The Quality Lab Technician performs analytical and clerical work in support of the plant’s quality function, ensuring accurate testing, reliable data reporting, and compliance with established quality and safety standards. This role offers the opportunity to learn microbiology, chemistry, and other testing methods, with potential for advancement within the broader nutrition business.

• Conduct and interpret laboratory tests to support product and environmental quality monitoring.
• Package and prepare samples for shipment to third-party testing locations, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
• Respond to internal inquiries and provide clear technical information about products and test results.
• Perform laboratory computations to generate accurate data and enter results into the computer system.
• Troubleshoot laboratory issues and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain testing accuracy and equipment reliability.
• Perform routine maintenance on all laboratory equipment to ensure proper operation and calibration.
• Contact laboratory supply vendors to coordinate orders, resolve issues, and maintain adequate inventory levels.
• Assist with inventory control processes for laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
• Review and file all laboratory chemical Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) to maintain proper documentation and safety compliance.
• Read and accurately interpret documents such as lab results, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manuals, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs, and procedure manuals.
• Solve practical problems and remain effective and composed in high-pressure situations.
• Interpret a variety of written and oral instructions and apply them correctly in daily laboratory activities.
• Complete routine clerical work such as filing, checking records, and entering required information into the computer system.
• Follow plant and laboratory GMPs to maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
• Advise operations associates to help ensure GMPs are consistently followed throughout the plant.
• Perform environmental and product testing and communicate results to plant and corporate management as needed.
• Issue timely Out of Specification (OOS) notices to internal and appropriate corporate management when results fall outside established parameters.

• Experience conducting laboratory tests and interpreting results in a quality-focused environment.
• Ability to perform laboratory computations and accurately report data.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality control procedures.
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, biology, microbiology, and wet chemistry techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret lab results, GMP manuals, HACCP programs, and procedure manuals.
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written and oral form.
• Competence with routine clerical tasks, including filing and data entry into computer systems.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and compliant laboratory environment.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with operations associates and management.

• Degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
• Alternatively, at least 1 year of laboratory experience within a food manufacturing or GMP-regulated industry.
• Background in laboratory quality control, including microbiology and chemistry testing.
• Experience with environmental and product testing in a production or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with plant and corporate teams and provide timely updates on quality issues.

This role is based in a plant laboratory environment that supports a nutrition-focused manufacturing operation. The position follows a fixed weekday schedule, with one opening on Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and another on Monday–Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Work involves regular use of laboratory equipment and materials for microbiology, chemistry, and wet chemistry testing, as well as computer systems for data entry and reporting. The environment requires adherence to GMPs, HACCP programs, and safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and maintenance of a clean, organized work area. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fond Du Lac, WI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
