Responsibilities

• Mechanical assembly of components and sub‑assemblies using engineering drawings

• Blueprint interpretation to understand dimensions, tolerances, and weld requirements

• Material prep including cutting, measuring, cleaning, and fit‑up

• MIG/TIG/stick welding to produce strong, accurate welds

• Grinding and finishing to achieve required surface finish and dimensions

• Fabrication tool use including saws, plasma cutters, torches, and grinders

• Weld prep such as fitting, clamping, beveling, and joint cleaning

• Component inspection for accuracy, defects, and tolerance compliance

• Basic quality checks to ensure products meet specs and documentation requirements

• Shop equipment operation including cranes and forklifts for safe material movement

• Tool maintenance to keep welders and machines running smoothly

• Safety compliance with PPE, shop rules, and established procedures

• Team collaboration with engineers, designers, and tradespeople

Essential Skills

• MIG welding proficiency

• TIG welding (preferred, willing to train)

• Stick welding experience

• Print reading and tolerance interpretation

• Precision measuring with tape measures, calipers, etc.

• Fabrication tools including saws, plasma cutters, torches, grinders

• Weld prep and joint preparation

• Quality inspection of welds and fabricated parts

• Crane/forklift operation

• Attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality work

• Safety adherence in a shop environment

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Welding passion — hobby or personal project experience welcomed

• Shop welding comfort in a structured, process‑driven setting

• TIG learning willingness if strengths are in other methods

• Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting tools and machinery

• Team collaboration with engineers and tradespeople

Work Environment

You’ll work in a clean, well‑maintained fabrication shop using wire welders, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, torches, cranes, and forklifts. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Yorktown, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
