MedSurg-Tele

**BLS and ACLS required**

EOW (Weekends are Sat and Sun)- Holidays rotated with perm staff
Shifts- 7a-7p; 7p-7a- but must arrive 15 min early for shift change. Experience or 'Must have' skills "Must be proficient with IV starts and blood draws. RNs will do majority of the phlebotomy and IV starts
Need to have strong general medicine/interal medicine experience"
Are RNs required to titrate drips? yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips heparin, lasix
Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? "No tele- on the floor but MUST be tele competent for floating purposes. This is the only unit that does not have tele
MUST pass a tele competency exam/EKG exam"
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse every shift- may have patients as the census changes and fluctuates
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios "Yes- will have 1:15 generally. If unit at full capacity will have a 1:10 ratio
Techs can do lab draws and EKGs
RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) "RT is shared between floors
will see home CPAPs (RT will set up) and breath tx"
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "12 hours 7-7, huddles start at 6:45, earliest they can clock in is 6:38. Manger will do schedule but will work with travelers requests. Schedules are done on month to month basis.
Weekend Requirement every other weekend
Holiday Requirement will be placed in the core staff rotation
Is there Call or a Standby requirement? no
Floating Requirements? "MUST float- will rotate with core staff
will float only to MedSurg/Tele acuity floors"
Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Navy
Unit/Department specific orientation "First 12 hours is split in to 2 days- an 8 hour day and a 4 hour day- when they will go over policies/procedures, EPIC training
2nd day-12 hour shift- will be shadowing a preceptor on the floor
3rd day- 12 hour shift- will take patients with a preceptor.
Will be on their own after that "
Charge Experience preferred but not required
Scrub Color- Navy
Charting System- Epic- experience preferred
