Histology Technician

Hourly Pay Range $28.47 - $42.71 – The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Position Highlights Position: Histology Technician Location: Northwest Community Hospital Full Time/Part Time: Part Time, 20 hours Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm What You Will Do Conduct tissue specimen processing including receiving, accessioning, and preparing tissue specimens for histological examination, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides. Ensure the accuracy and reliability of histological slides by adhering to strict quality control measures and protocols. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes and tissue processors, and examine slides to identify tissue abnormalities and cellular structures. Perform various staining techniques such as hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, immunohistochemistry, and special stains to enhance tissue visibility and aid diagnosis. Document detailed records of specimen processing, staining procedures, and quality control data; document any discrepancies and take corrective actions as needed. Monitor and restock laboratory supplies and reagents to ensure continuous workflow. Follow safety protocols, including handling hazardous chemicals and biological materials, and maintain a clean and safe working environment. Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare providers to discuss findings, assist in diagnosis, and ensure timely reporting of results. What You Will Need Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required Certification: Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) – American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) OR Certified Histotechnician (HT) – American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required Experience: 1 year experience in a histology laboratory required.
