Urban Farms Production Assistant, Seasonal Denver Botanic Gardens Full-time – Seasonal Description Denver Botanic Gardens is a premier botanical institution founded in 1951, recognized for its water conservation initiatives and commitment to plant conservation, education, and community engagement. The gardens comprise a 24‑acre urban oasis in Denver, offering plant collections, natural history, art exhibitions, and research programs. Position Summary We are seeking a Seasonal Urban Farms Production Assistant to support the horticulture team’s urban food operations. The role involves applying horticultural techniques across multiple farm sites and traveling between them as required. General Duties and Responsibilities Execute crop plans for assigned urban farm sites. Record and report harvest data. Lead volunteer shifts with diverse populations. Apply horticultural techniques for weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, and farm stands. Practice integrated pest management for plant disease, nutrition, and insect issues. Maintain paths, beds, and common areas free of weeds, debris, and litter. Provide courteous, accurate responses to inquiries. Interact positively with the community surrounding the urban farms. Communicate daily operations to management. Assist with special events (Plant Sale, Fete, Concert Series, Blossoms of Light) including set‑up, teardown, and cleanup. Maintain positive working relationships with managers, co‑workers, and volunteers. Adopt appropriate safety procedures. Participate in snow removal when necessary. Maintain regular attendance; remote work discretion is at management’s discretion. Commit to the Gardens’ mission of connecting people with plants. Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of correct horticultural practices and routine garden maintenance. Knowledge of planting, weed identification, and control. Knowledge of cultural requirements for herbaceous and woody plants. Proficiency with horticultural tools and machinery. Ability to apply prescribed rules, policies, and procedures to address issues. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to maintain stability under pressure and manage stressful situations. Flexibility to modify plans throughout the day. Availability for a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). Availability to work overtime as necessary. Positive representation of the Gardens internally and externally. Adherence to respectful collaboration with employees and the public. Commitment to working safely at all times. Experience and Education Associate degree or equivalent education and experience. Minimum of two (2) years of experience from a college or technical school in a related field. Experience with urban farming and/or food crops. Travel Up to 10% travel required, with the ability to visit remote or varied garden locations.
