Athletic Trainer

Job Description The Athletic Training Coordinator provides leadership, vision, and supervision of a comprehensive injury care and athletic training service for the Sport Clubs Program comprising 30 nationally competitive teams with around 1,200 members each academic year. The role includes providing athletic training services to team members, responding to injuries and emergencies at practices and competitions, and assisting with managing student staff during events. Position Summary The Coordinator works collaboratively with department colleagues to facilitate event operations, logistics, and emergency response across Campus Recreation and the university. Frequent evening and weekend hours are required to support programmatic offerings. Essential Job Duties Provide comprehensive athletic training services for on‑campus and home practices and competitions, and for pre‑scheduled injury care and rehabilitation appointments, ensuring documentation and HIPAA/FERPA compliance. Manage, deliver, and document the baseline concussion testing protocol for the 12 mandated teams. Oversee daily operation of the Athletic Training Room and related facilities, including participant access, equipment checkout, risk management, cleaning, inspection, and maintenance. Develop, manage, and make expenditure decisions for the annual area budget ($10,000). Oversee program and event operations during frequent evening and weekend hours, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and risk‑management standards. During practices and competitions, manage facilities and field operations by scheduling, inspecting, and determining playability and safety conditions across indoor and outdoor venues. Maintain current certifications in American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Professional Rescuer, AED) and First Aid; a substitute is American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Perform other duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment Pre‑employment criminal background check (required for new hires). Frequent evening and weekend hours as required. Supervision The position assists in the supervision and training of up to 12 Sport Club Managers who work a combined 60 hours per week. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Current certification from the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification. Current CPR/AED certification consistent with NATABOC standards. Current license as an athletic trainer with the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), required prior to start date. Experience with programming or service delivery for various community populations. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a health‑related field as required by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). One year of certified athletic training work experience in recreation, education, athletic, therapeutic, or similar organization. Inventory management experience. Experience working in a higher education recreation setting. Budget development or management experience. Experience with athletic training/injury tracking/concussion baseline software systems (e.g., Healthy Roster, Impact). Salary Range $52,000–$56,000 for a 10‑month position (August through May, annually).
