PLEASE ALSO APPLY FOR Chaperone /Community Volunteer/Volunteer Coach Purpose Statement The job of Head Coach is done for the purpose/s of designing and implementing the athletic program for assigned sport(s) in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; providing supervision of other coaching personnel; providing supervision of students during all aspects of the program; using sound instructional techniques in overseeing program activities; serving as a positive role model to student athletes; and serving in a liaison capacity for the school and program with other schools both within and/or outside the district, to the community, and to various organizations. Individuals in this job classification are assigned to a position for assigned sport(s) and oversee all aspects of the respective athletic program(s). This job reports to Athletic Director Essential Functions Assesses student athletes for the purpose of providing feedback on performance and team placement. Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. to receive and convey information related to role. Conducts parent orientations, recognition events, banquets, etc. for program information and recognizing participants’ accomplishments. Develops practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention) to enhance performance. Develops game strategies and plans to prepare team for competition. Guides other coaching personnel on instructional techniques, practice organization, supervision guidelines. Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies. Implements practice schedules and related events to ensure efficient program operation. Instructs student athletes to promote individual growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Maintains records (statistics, insurance, permission forms, schedules) to comply with regulations. Monitors academic eligibility and provides intervention as needed. Oversees assistant coaches, student managers, volunteers for direction and monitoring. Promotes athletic program through clinics, skill-camps, community meetings to increase interest. Responds to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, college reps for assistance. Keeps athletic director informed of issues impacting program. Provides prudent supervision of all athletes and students involved. Explains PVUSD Athletic Code of Conduct to all athletes. Maintains high standards of personal conduct; coaches serve as role models. Ensures all involved coaches are cleared through PVUSD Human Resources. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: adapt to work priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes, policies; coordinate activities with schools; organize and communicate information. Knowledge: community support organizations; public relations; equipment; injury prevention; laws; participant eligibility; safety practices. Abilities: communicate with varied backgrounds; handle interruptions; strong leadership; maintain confidentiality; meeting deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce discipline; lead and team building; travel to events; work extended hours including evenings/weekends. Responsibilities Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct others within a small unit; utilize resources from other units as required. Work Environment The usual methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity. Generally job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing. Job performed under temperature extremes and risk of injury and/or illness. Experience Job related experience is required. Education High school diploma or equivalent.
