The Infusion RegisteredNurse (RN) in the Lymphoma Care Neighborhood at Fred Hutch Cancer Center brings together the leading research teams and cancer specialists of Fred Hutch Seattle Childrens and UW Medicine. This extraordinary groups sole mission is the pursuit of better longer richer lives for our support of our mission Fred Hutch is physically growing the clinic footprint and expanding into Care Neighborhoods. The Care Neighborhood puts the patient at the center of our work and brings the care team together to more effectively care for the patient. The clinicians testing this model will be innovators in their field and will work together to create a better patient and staff experience.

This is a full-time position at our South Lake Union location. The Schedule for this position may vary with the typical schedule starting and ending between 6:00 am and 6:30 pm. Occasional weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assesses physical emotional social and spiritual needs and evaluates patients adaptation to health changes
• Develops a plan of care based on patients disease symptoms and response to treatment
• Educates patients families and caregivers on disease processes treatment side effects and symptom management
• Coordinates with interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
• Refers patients families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work home health care clinical nutrition etc.
• Implements evaluates and modifies plan of care
• Integrates research and evidence-based knowledge into clinical practice

In addition to the primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN) the Infusion RN will have the following key responsibilities:

Nursing Care and Assessment

• Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects
• Perform nursing assessment review relevant lab resultsassesspain and other symptoms
• Administer IV hydration electrolyte replacement chemotherapy/biotherapyand blood products

Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs

• Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them
• Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or otherhazardousagents and blood products

Patient and Family Education

• Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan
• Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s)
• Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy

Communication and Teamwork

• Communicateor escalatepatient symptomsand concernstoprovider as needed
• Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care
• Request consultation from social work dietitian spiritual care and/or any other supportive care teams when the patients situation indicates

Professional Development and Clinic Engagement

• Participation in continuing education departmental projects committee work and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
• Must have a current Washington State Registered Nurse Multistate License (MSL) or current MSL from another state; and ability to update to MSL with Primary State of Residence to WA within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances subject to approval.
• Applicants that do not have previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support
• Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
• Additional certification may be required dependent upon department.
• ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 3 months of hire)
• Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing applying standards discriminating information seeking logical reasoning predicting and transforming knowledge
• Ability to develop clinical judgment.
• Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
• Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues asking open-ended questions exploring cues using pauses screening responses and clarifying response.
• Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting acknowledging summarizing empathizing and paraphrasing skill.
• Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already giving small amounts of information at a time using clear terms and avoiding jargon avoiding detail unless it is requested checking for understanding and pausing and waiting for a response.

Preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Two years of nursing experience preferred
• Certification in oncology or specialty practice area
• 2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting

The hourly pay range for this position is from $51.06 to $93.04 and pay offered will be based on experience and Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree preceptor and certification.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
