SALES SUPPORT ENGINEER

The Sales Support Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, estimating, and servicing new and existing customers for access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, video, and other low voltage systems. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while working both independently and as part of a team. This position reports to the Security Department Manager .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

• Follow all Mears safety policies, procedures, and training requirements, including while on customer job sites.
• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
• Prepare estimates by calculating a complete takeoff of the scope of work; enter into the computer estimating system and review printouts for accuracy and completeness.
• Request quotes from suppliers for equipment and materials.
• Identify qualified suppliers and subcontractors, solicit quotes, and review quotes for completeness against plans and specifications.
• Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary to prepare bid packages:
• • Subcontract work
  • Equipment rental
  • Tools and supplies
• Provide the Chief Estimator or team with a detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing before the formal bid package is issued.
• Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates.
• Meet with Project Management at turnover of a successful bid to fully explain the estimate, scope of work, and quotes, and to support a smooth project transition.
• Complete all client-required documents in a timely manner.
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures.
• Travel to customer job sites as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in low voltage.
• Demonstrated experience selling access control and video surveillance systems and services.
• Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques, and cost control.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering design drawings; ability to create and interpret wiring diagrams.
• General understanding of the roles, needs, and responsibilities of Owners, Engineers, Architects, and General Contractors.
• Above-average skills using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), estimating software, and PDF mark-up/collaboration tools.
• Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems and perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.
• Ability to design and create proposals and deliver them to customers in a clear and concise manner.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; interacts effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and others.
• Ability to identify and meet customers’ needs, expectations, and requirements.
• Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of specific variables where limited standardization exists.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, change priorities as necessary, and work under pressure with a positive attitude.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
• The physical activity and work environment required for this role includes:
• • Work in a well-lit, climate-controlled modern office with adequate ventilation.
  • Combine sedentary administrative work (sitting, typing, handling items, completing paperwork) with client and job-site visits.
  • Occasionally walk, stand, and talk and hear others in conversation by phone or in person.
  • Work outdoors at customer job sites in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
