Physician (Critical Care) - Surgical ICU

Job Title

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

A summary of the duties is mentioned below but not limited to:

• Provide comprehensive critical care for surgical ICU patients, including initial evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.
• Perform or supervise essential ICU procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation, and ventilator management.
• Develop individualized care plans in coordination with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Manage complex postoperative complications and post-op care for surgical patients.
• Conduct daily patient rounds and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in electronic health records; communicate critical information to care teams and families.
• Mentor and educate residents, medical students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in critical care medicine.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, comply with VA standards, and adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
• Contribute to clinical research and scholarly activities; present and publish findings as appropriate.
• Provide 24/7 ICU coverage through participation in rotational on-call scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays; respond promptly to emergencies and acute care needs.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals to deliver cohesive, high-quality patient care; serve as a resource within and beyond the ICU.

Work Schedule: Part-time position (20 hours per week) with participation in a rotational on-call schedule to provide 24/7 ICU coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
