The Certified Surgical Technologist participates in the delivery of individualized peri-operative registered nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care.The Certified Surgical Technologist* Establishes and maintains a sterile field and assures team maintains a sterile environment.* Correctly and safely passes instruments to clinician.* Participants in surgical counts (sponge, needle and instruments), per policy.* Communicates with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other necessary staff and patients to facilitate continuity of care.* Follows policies, procedures, all regulatory standards and patient safety goals.* Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.* Participates in unit educational activities.# **What We Require:****Education:** High school graduate or equivalent required. Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Or, has successfully completed a training program for surgical technology during the person's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States. **Experience:** None **Licensure, certification, and/or registration:** Certification in Surgical Technology required. LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees. Obtain and/or maintain registration with the VA Dept of Health Professions.**Other Minimum Qualifications:** Knowledge of instrumentations. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
