RN MedSurg PCU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse for the Medical/Surgical Unit (MSU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital setting. This role requires experience across multiple departments with flexibility to support various units as needed. The nurse is responsible for patient education, safety, infection control, accurate documentation, and effective communication with interdisciplinary teams. An active Washington state RN license and at least three years of experience are required. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients in MSU, PCU, Telemetry, and MedSurg areas.
• Identify patient and family education needs and deliver appropriate education using various modalities.
• Ensure patient safety through preventative measures such as side rails, restraints, and safe equipment use; adhere to restraint policies and document accordingly.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain essential medical equipment, accessing manuals as needed.
• Implement infection control and isolation procedures, consistently using standard precautions.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses during shifts.
• Accurately document charge and complete physician orders timely, including 24-hour order checks when assigned.
• Provide thorough change-of-shift reports to incoming staff.
• Communicate effectively with other departments and report critical lab values to physicians promptly per policy.
• Maintain and restock emergency carts, patient rooms, and general supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Washington.
• Minimum of three years nursing experience, preferably in Medical/Surgical, PCU, Telemetry, or related departments.
• Strong patient assessment, education, and safety skills.
• Proficient in infection control and isolation protocols.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot medical equipment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in multiple nursing departments with flexibility to adapt to varied clinical settings.
• Knowledge of telemetry and progressive care nursing practices.

• Must be willing to flex and work across different nursing departments as needed.
• Strict adherence to patient safety, infection control, and documentation policies.
• Work environment includes Medical/Surgical, PCU, and Telemetry units.

Scheduling:

• Day shift schedule for Medical/Surgical/PCU nursing.
• Shift assignments may require flexibility based on departmental needs.
