District Nurse

School Nurse

Provides the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools.

Other duties may be assigned.

• Responsible for professional medical treatment of students.
• Responsible for early detection of physical problems as well as health evaluation.
• Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
• Assists in promoting programs on health education and immunization.
• Coordinates vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings.
• Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians, County Health Nurse, parents, and staff.
• Makes recommendations to primary care physicians on health needs of individual students.
• Maintains up-to-date electronic cumulative health records on all students on Infinite Campus.
• Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
• Conducts staff training as requested by Administration and as per state statute.
• Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
• Administers emergency aid to students and school staff in accordance with established first aid procedures.
• Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with communicable diseases.
• Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
• Inventories and requisitions supplies.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to district employees and parents.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must maintain good composure in pressure situations.

Must hold a valid State of Montana RN License.

Employees of Lewistown Public Schools must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check. Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
