General Summary

Responsible for all washing and storage of utensils, dishes, pots, and pans. Transports produce from walk-in refrigerated area to kitchen. Assists with salad preparation, slices meat, and performs other food preparation/cooking duties as requested. Empties trash when necessary.

Principal Duties / Responsibilities: Essential Job Functions

Transport produce from walk-in refrigerated areas to kitchen. Rinse dishes in the sink with a flexible spray hose, load into racks, place pots and pans on a tray, place in the dishwasher, close, start the cycle (approximately 4 minutes), remove at the end of the cycle, carry pots, pans, and dishes to clean areas and store until needed. This cycle may repeat 60-100 times per day. Know temperature awareness (cycles). Wash sink. Prepare salad ingredients (wash, slice, and drop into sink to rinse, store in containers, and place in refrigerator). Take out garbage to area behind the fence. When full, transport to large dumpster on street (approximately 200 yards away). Clean all work areas thoroughly prior to leaving each day. Fill in for other kitchen staff as requested, may assist with cooking, baking and/or other food preparation.

Job Specifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Must have high school diploma or GED. Prior dishwashing experience using automated dishwashing equipment preferred. Must be able to work under time constraints, quickly and accurately. Must be able to get along with others and have good verbal communication skills. Must be able to transport mixing bowl with ingredients and trash containers weighing up to 60 pounds. Must understand and follow all food handling, safety, hygiene, and sanitation requirements.

Working Conditions

The kitchen is in a renovated area of a historic home and has limited space. Uses commercial dishwasher, slicing machine, mixer, knives, utensils, bowls, pots and pans. Prolonged periods of time spent working at hot and humid workstation. Heat may be uncomfortable. Required to wear uniform, hair net, protective eyewear, non-skid shoes, and protective gloves. May have to transport ingredients in containers or mixing vessels weighing up to 60 pounds. Work requires sufficient strength and endurance to meet demands for fast paced atmosphere. The area is noisy and requires good receptive communication skills. Usually scheduled for an eight or nine-hour day, but must be available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is: $2.00 - $20.00. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as geographic location.
