Materials Lean Leader
As the Materials Lean Leader for the Schenectady factory and warehouse, you will lead the development, execution, and sustainment of a Lean Materials Management Strategy aligned with our business targets. This role involves providing support and coaching across the manufacturing facility, driving product and process improvements, and delivering lead time and inventory reductions to support customer delivery. Your expertise will ensure the optimization of material delivery, warehouse picking, kitting processes, and the alignment of SAP/ERP systems with lean materials strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the site's lean materials strategy, focusing specifically on increasing inventory turns and reducing line-side waste.
- Drive the redesign of material delivery processes using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify and eliminate non-value-added steps from the dock to the point of use.
- Architect and implement end-to-end Pull/Kanban systems.
- Lead daily management routines for materials.
- Plan and deliver tactical initiatives, including warehouse layout optimization, water-spider route implementation, and Heijunka (level loading) of material deliveries.
- Provide hands-on coaching to warehouse staff and planners on lean material disciplines, ensuring that new processes are standardized and sustained.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or related field (OR High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of manufacturing experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in Lean Materials Management or high-volume In-Plant Logistics.
- Hands-on proficiency in SAP/ERP systems, specifically regarding material master data, inventory logic, and replenishment settings.
- Proven success implementing standard work, material presentation, supermarkets, pull/kanban, and water-spider route systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot material shortages at the root cause by analyzing flow, lead times, and system-to-physical inventory gaps.
- Ability to influence warehouse and production floor teams to adopt lean material handling behaviors.
- Strong foundational knowledge of inventory control, material storage strategies, and the impact of material velocity on the bottom line.
- Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or equivalent, with a track record of applying these tools specifically to supply chain or material flow projects.
