Job Description

Title: Custodian - Evening

Reports To: Supervisor of Building & Grounds

Goal: To create a clean environment that is conducive to learning

Qualifications: Criminal History Background Check Proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal alien status

School Year Performance Responsibilities

A. Empty trash cans in classrooms and bathrooms. Recycle all paper and cans. Replace bags as needed.

B. Trash cans are to be washed out weekly or as needed.

C. Dry mop floors each day in classrooms. Dust computer tables daily.

D. Wet mop floors in the classroom. Clean classroom door glass and wipe door handles daily.

E. Keep all janitorial rooms clean and stocked with cleaning materials.

F. Disinfect desktops daily.

G. On a daily basis: sweep and mop all bathroom floors with disinfectant, including all bathrooms in classrooms, disinfect all toilets and urinals and walls behind each, clean the mirrors.

H. Dry mop and use walk-behind scrubber in hallways each evening and clean around door mats and vacuum. Clean door glass as needed. Clean out dead bugs in hallway lights.

I. Check ceiling lights and around the classrooms for cobwebs.

J. Check ceiling supply and return vents and clean as needed.

K. Clean all dry-erase boards and/or chalkboards as needed.

L. Empty pencil sharpeners as needed.

M. Vacuum carpets in classrooms daily.

N. Wipe down counters and sinks in classrooms daily.

O. Wipe down window ledges as needed

P. Check daily toilet paper, paper towel and soap dispensers and replace as needed.

Q. Put all trash and recycling in the appropriate outside dumpster daily.

R. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Summer Performance Responsibilities

When the school year is complete and students and teachers are out of the building for the summer, the evening duty is eliminated. All custodians work during the day.

A. Open and close school each day

B. Remove all furniture from classrooms.

C. Clean all light fixtures/vents/tops of cabinets and walls.

D. Scour the entire classroom top to bottom, walls, furniture, etc.

E. Remove any stickers on floors.

F. Scrub floors with a floor machine and apply wax.

G. Reinstall furniture.

H. Scrub and wax hallway floors.

I. Shampoo all carpets.

J. Scour all bathrooms.

K. Leave classrooms ready for the new school year.

L. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Terms of Employment

Twelve-month position. Eight (8) hour work day with two (2) fifteen (15) minute breaks and one (1) thirty (30) minute lunch. Salary and work hours remain as established according to the negotiated agreement between the teacher's association bargaining unit and the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds in accordance with this job description and the provisions of the Board of Education policy.
