Network & Security Engineer

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Network Security Engineer to join our team in Roanoke, VA. This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for maintaining secure, reliable network infrastructure while supporting the day-to-day technology needs of the business.

Location : Roanoke, VA
Full-Time, Onsite (Monday-Friday)
Salary: $100k; may be negotiable based on experience/education/geo location and other factors

The ideal candidate enjoys solving real-world technical problems, working through a ticket queue, and keeping critical systems operating at peak performance. You'll spend your time provisioning infrastructure, deploying virtual environments, supporting Cisco-based networks, and troubleshooting network and security issues across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Provision and deploy Proxmox-based virtualization systems and prebuilt virtual machines.
• Build, configure, and support Cisco network environments, including routing, switching, wireless, VPN, and security infrastructure.
• Install, commission, decommission, and maintain physical servers, network switches, and supporting hardware.
• Monitor and maintain network performance, availability, and security.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity, firewall, VPN, and infrastructure-related issues.
• Manage and support Cisco ASR routers, Cisco Wireless Controllers, and other Cisco networking platforms.
• Respond to incidents, service requests, and escalations through the IT ticketing system.
• Perform upgrades, patches, firmware updates, and routine maintenance activities.
• Assist with system administration tasks and contribute to continuous improvements across the IT environment.
• Ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and best practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and changes.

Required Qualifications

• CCNA certification or equivalent networking education and experience.
• 3-4 years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise networks and infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and wireless networking.
• Experience with Cisco networking technologies, including routers, switches, wireless controllers, and security devices.
• Experience provisioning and supporting virtualized environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering excellent customer service.
• Comfortable working in a fully onsite environment and handling physical hardware installation and removal.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Proxmox virtualization platforms.
• Exposure to firewall administration and network security best practices.
• Experience supporting Cisco ASR routers and enterprise wireless environments.
• Knowledge of server administration, virtualization, and storage technologies.
• Familiarity with scripting or automation tools for infrastructure administration.
