Description Speech Language Pathologist Therapist- Rehab-Per Diem-Day-Mount Sinai Queens The Speech‑Language Pathologist plans, conducts and evaluates the treatment program for individuals with disorders of the comprehension and production of speech and language, as set forth by the American Speech‑Language and Hearing Association. Under the direction of the attending physician, the Speech‑Language Pathologist provides assessment and treatment of cognitive, speech and swallowing disorders. Speech‑Language Pathologist is to provide high quality, safe, compassionate patient care in the acute care and in the outpatient setting, as well as supervise the work done by other SLP in the department. Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team. Perform duties in a manner that is consistent with Patient First Service Standards. Responsibilities Establish performance goals along with Director of department Assist in the process of interview of new applicants and coordinate orientation programs for new staff members. Evaluate staff competency and make recommendations for personnel actions such as promotions and disciplinary actions. Identify needs in program planning and facilitate program development. Responsible for the coordination of SLP services provision and clinical care of the Inpatient / Outpatient. Evaluate patient’s speech and language abilities, both deficits and assess and evaluates the patient’s level of function. Plan and provide rehabilitation services for speech and language disorders. Assist in developing and updating the plan of treatment. Provide assessment and treatment of cognitive and swallowing disorders. Provide MBS / VFS studies when indicated and ordered by Physician. To observe, report and record type of treatment and patient’s response to treatment. Report progress and/or regression to physician and/or department’s supervisor. Submit to physician and/or department’s supervisor written reports of the patient’s progress. Select and administer diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and materials for patient evaluation and treatment purposes. Recommend augmentative communication devices/aides as needed such as gesture system, communication boards, electrical automated devices and mechanical devices for the patient. Complete timely clinical documentation to include functional goal-setting, progress and therapeutic approach. Perform assignments in a manner that is consistent with increasing and promoting growth of outpatient practice. Keep patient significant others freely informed of and involved with patient plan of care. Act as liaison with nursing, medical staff and therapist, to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services and acts as educational resource. The Speech/Language Pathologist appropriately demonstrates and incorporates the necessary knowledge and skills into the assessment, treatment and evaluation of care provided to the following patient population: adolescents, adults and geriatrics and reflect the physical, psychological, cognitive and characteristics of each age group, as based on sound growth and development principles. Participate in provision of hospital in‑services and staff education to improve quality care and patient outcomes as well as to prevent complications. Adhere to all applicable federal, state, local and institutional standards of care, ethics and policies concerning the practice of speech pathology. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, professional association meetings, departmental/hospital committees and in‑service meetings. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $62,170.26 – $119,580 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
