Must hold current Respiratory Care Practitioner License, issued by the Respiratory Care Board (RCB) of California (CA) (verified before August 26, 2026, for our Fall 2026 Cohort). Must hold current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification, issued by The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (verified before August 26, 2026, for our Fall 2026 Cohort). Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, all issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) (verified before August 26, 2026, for our Fall 2026 Cohort). Job Summary The Respiratory Care Practitioner Residency Program is a 12‑week intensive orientation and training designed for the recent program graduate and licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner who is new to practice. During the program, the trainee will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to treat pediatric critical care and pediatric acute care patients under the coordination and supervision of the Respiratory Care Leadership Team. Successful completion of the residency, measured by fulfillment of orientation and training requirements and mastery of core competencies, will qualify the graduate for advancement to the Respiratory Care Practitioner – LevelI position. Essential Functions Attends and completes all mandatory Respiratory Care Resident class instruction. Completes all equipment handling and competency check‑offs. Completes all simulation‑based scenarios. Stocks supplies and equipment after completion of training and competency assessment. Performs as an RCP on the acute care floors while attending the Respiratory Care Residency Program. With oversight from core team members, performs as an RCP in one (1) Intensive Care Unit. Abides by all Joint Commission Requirements, including sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights, ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication, and adherence to safety and quality programs. Performs all duties in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and Code of Conduct. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduated from a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program within the last year. Experience: None required. License/Certification: Respiratory Care License from the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCP) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Certification: Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Provider from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association. Knowledge Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver, considering age, culture, and developmental needs. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand effectively at a level appropriate for the job. Ability to maintain competencies through ongoing experience and/or competency/skill review.
