Custodian

Position Information Title: Custodian (Full‑Time, 1.0 FTE, 12‑month position) Department: Facilities Posting Number: 20110695C&A Job Summary The Custodian performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and general appearance of university facilities. Work assignments may include academic buildings, administrative offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and other campus spaces. The custodian is often the first point of contact for students, staff, and the public and works with Facilities and University personnel to ensure positive communication and teamwork. Responsibilities Perform custodial duties including sweeping, dust mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuum carpets; spot clean carpets; dust furnishings; clean walls, doors, mirrors, windows, and interior glass; remove cobwebs; clean fixtures and lighting surfaces; empty trash and recycling containers and transport contents to designated collection areas; clean classrooms, offices, lecture halls, labs, meeting spaces, residence hall common areas, athletic facilities, and kitchenettes, laundry areas, and common spaces; disinfect frequently touched surfaces; fill in for other custodians as required. Clean and disinfect all restroom facilities and replenish supplies. Arrange and move furniture, tables, chairs, and equipment for classroom and event setups. Maintain stairways, entryways, hallways, and building entrances; assist with snow removal when required. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, staging, and equipment for campus events. Perform minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks; report maintenance issues and safety concerns to Facilities & Planning staff. Follow safety procedures and guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals and operating custodial equipment. Prioritize cleaning assignments, identify and report safety hazards, coordinate work with custodial staff and student employees, and maintain positive working relationships. Minimum Qualifications Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform repetitive movements. Understanding and obeying all safe work practices involving hazardous materials, proper lifting, machine safety, and emergency response. Basic computer skills and good oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and receive supervision on a regular and frequent basis. Successful completion of an EOU criminal and credential background check. Verifiable identity and eligibility to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Prior custodial experience.
