The Work You Will Do: Materials Manager- Geotech Design/ District One/District Materials Office This position supports the agency by providing geotechnical expertise that helps ensure safe and reliable transportation infrastructure. It includes performing field evaluations of soil and foundation conditions, reviewing geotechnical design and construction documentation for accuracy and compliance, and overseeing geotechnical consultants to ensure their work meets department standards. The role helps keep projects on track by identifying issues, recommending effective solutions, and offering clear technical input to project teams. Where You Will Work District One/District Materials Office 2730 State RD 60 West Bartow, FL 33830 Annual Salary Range: $65,181.52 - $84,352.55 Your Specific Responsibilities: Perform analysis in the field required to determine the best approach to Department soil and foundation needs. Perform analysis required to determine the appropriate foundation installation technique and parameters. Perform analysis required to determine if the installed foundation meets the design requirements. Design foundations and other geotechnical solutions to support Department infrastructure. Support consultant contracts in accordance with applicable rules, laws and procedures. Review the consultant work effort. Review and comment on invoices. Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Make/recommend improvements to optimize delivery or improve results. Notify stakeholders of any changes to the project/process. Ensure project/process is consistent, predictable and repeatable. Perform analysis of in-place conditions in the field. Determine the cause(s) of the in-place conditions in the field. Propose solutions if necessary or requested by the customer. Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer. Offer solutions when objecting to the approach that is proposed. Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of errors, failures or negative trends. Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs. Provide guidance and training to customers. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: The concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of geotechnical engineering Engineering design, construction, production and/or operations Skills in: Using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments Ability to: Operate a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications Analyze and interpret engineering data Solve problems relating to engineering Perform engineering inspections Apply engineering quantitative techniques Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments Communicate engineering information effectively Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Other Job-Related Requirements: Must possess or obtain and maintain Pile Driving Inspector Construction Training Qualification Program (CTQP) and Drilled Shaft Inspector Construction Training Qualification Program (CTQP). Must pass or have passed Construction Math and Contract Plans Reading Self Study examinations. Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT). Minimum Qualifications: Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment and/or instruments; and Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database applications.
