Summary: The purpose of the Clinical Support Tech is to assist the nurse and respiratory therapist in patient care delivery of patients ranging from zero to 18 years old and assist in managing the customer service experience during the patient stay within the organization. The Clinical Support Tech works with physicians and nurses to maintain patient charts and facilitate communication to keep unit organized and staff informed. Activities performed are intended to support, supplement, and/or complement patient care provided by licensed clinical staff.

Responsibilities: * Prepare rooms for patient admission with appropriate equipment and supplies based on age and needs of patient; perform basic patient care tasks including baths, vital signs, positioning, ambulating, appropriate disposal of hazardous waste, and documentation of intake/output or other tasks delegated by the registered nurse (RN) within the scope of job duties. * Perform administrative duties according to hospital and unit standards related to patient charts, patient orders, forms and records; work as a team member to promote positive, accurate communication between staff and with patients/families; and maintain orderliness, safety and supplies in specific unit areas. * Performs clerical functions associated with accurate record keeping, including but not limited to: transcription of physician orders, reconciliation of charges/census, entering data into Clinical System, generate reports and computer printouts, complete daily culture report for physician review, and heavy phone answering and documentation of calls. * Assist with bed control duties to ensure patients are admitted to appropriate service in a timely manner; respond to visitors, patients and families, and other staff members in a manner that promotes a positive public image for Children's Medical Center; may serve as a preceptor to other unit coordinators; and perform other duties and special projects as required. * Has the ability to perform advanced patient care tasks if assigned by their respective areas (See addendum). These tasks include but are not limited to the following: collection and testing of specimens (excluding central and arterial line samples); initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning; and complex dressing changes. * Respond quickly to patient and family needs and problem solve appropriately in collaboration with the RN; maintain a safe patient environment at all times and transport stable patients to procedures or testing within the Children's Medical Center physical building requiring minimal therapy needs in addition to patient discharge. * Assist in emergency situations by initiating BLS, continuing chest compressions, and/or participate as a runner; assist with unit regulatory readiness as assigned (including code cart checks); demonstrate skills as identified on the unit-based competency checklist, document legibly and completely. * May perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience: * If a student, must be actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Req * At least 1 year If not a student, 1 year of experience as a CNA, EMT, or Medical Assistant. Pref * At least 1 year For the ED and ICU, 1 year of field experience as a paramedic or EMT Pref * Knowledge of hospital setting and medical terminology Req

Education: * High school diploma or equivalent Req * For non-nursing students, completion of a certified nurse assistant training, basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic or Medical Assistant program or equivalent (not applicable for NICU) Req
