Shop Foreman - Machine Builder Posted by Jade Greenlee at Jobot Salary: $75,000 - $125,000 per year Overview The Shop Foreman – Machine Builder leads daily shop operations while staying hands-on with machine assembly, machining and fabrication, of semi‑custom and custom equipment. This role supervises shop personnel, drives safety and quality, coordinates workflow, and supports projects from prints/BOMs through final build, test, and shipment. Occasional client interaction and support with job estimating are included. Responsibilities Oversee and manage all aspects of the machine shop, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Lead, mentor, and train a team of machinists, technicians, and fabricators. Ensure production of high‑quality machinery that meets client specifications and needs. Develop and implement strategies for improving shop efficiency and productivity. Work closely with the Engineering team to design, build, and test new machinery. Maintain strict quality control standards, inspecting all machinery for defects or issues before delivery. Handle the creation and management of BOMs for all projects. Foster a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring all safety protocols and standards are adhered to. Manage shop resources, including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment. Handle any issues or conflicts that may arise in the shop, resolving them in a timely and effective manner. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Proficiency in BOMs, Quality Management, and Machine Shop operations. Strong knowledge of machine building and design, with a keen eye for detail and quality. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others. Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to think quickly and make effective decisions under pressure. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner. A strong commitment to safety, with knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a machine shop environment. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with excellent time management skills. Proficiency in the use of computer software, including CAD and project management tools. Degree in Engineering or a related field preferred. Certification in Quality Management or a related area is a plus.
