Lead Data Architect

Salary: $120,900 - 187,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, data science, mathematics, or a related discipline; a masters degree is preferred.
• We need at least 3 years of data modeling experience in a Lakehouse analytics environment.
• We expect proficiency with a data modeling tool such as ER Studio.
• We require experience with big data platforms and technologies such as Databricks, Spark, AWS, or Azure.
• We expect expert-level SQL and DDL development skills.
• We need experience working with data governance, data quality frameworks, and metadata management in relation to data modeling.
• We look for strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
• We value excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• We need the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
• Preferred: understanding of PII and PHI data governance and security.
• Preferred: experience working on agile teams with agile tools and practices.
• Preferred: familiarity with insurance data taxonomies.
• Preferred: knowledge of Azure and AWS services relevant to data architecture.
• Preferred: knowledge of data lakes and pipelines that transform raw data into usable data.

• We build enterprise data models, including an enterprise insurance data model used by multiple build and vendor partners.
• We define data domains and structures based on business needs.
• We create consistent data designs so solution development and user experience remain aligned across teams.
• We develop decision trees that clarify when consistency is required based on the situation and requirements.
• We design interoperability across data solutions, including technology platforms, data pipelines, data models, ML and AI applications, data governance platforms, data security, and hyperscaler cloud services.
• We coordinate with data governance partners, including data stewards, to define attribute names, definitions, and supporting metadata.
• We design conceptual, logical, and physical data models for business intelligence, AI/ML, and operational use cases.
• We monitor and optimize data models for performance, scalability, and query efficiency.
• We collaborate with data modelers to align their scope with the enterprise insurance data model.
• We meet with business stakeholders to understand analytical and operational data needs and select the best modeling approach.
• We document data models, including entity relationships and dimensional structures.
• We act as a bridge between technical and business teams, explaining the value and limitations of data models to support adoption.
• We provide training so business users can build queries effectively against the models.
• We work with data engineers to create pipelines that populate the models.
