Job Description

Job Description

After-School Literacy Teacher

Overview
The After School Literacy Teacher’s primary responsibility is to implement academic support through Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI) for K-5 students. In this role, you will be at the forefront of our mission to close the literacy gap among young learners. Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI) is a key component of our academic support program, designed to meet the diverse needs of our students by providing tailored reading interventions.

This role is crucial in helping students develop their reading skills by providing personalized, data-driven instruction tailored to meet each student’s unique needs. Using the Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) and MAZE assessments, you will identify students who are struggling with reading fluency and comprehension. These assessments will allow you to pinpoint the specific areas where students need additional support.

You will then develop and implement targeted intervention plans that address these needs, focusing on improving fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and other essential literacy skills. Your instruction will be dynamic and adaptable, ensuring that each student progresses according to their ability and receives the support necessary to thrive academically.

As the After School Literacy Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in monitoring and documenting student progress. This involves assessing students regularly and maintaining detailed records that track their development over time. These records will be essential for adjusting instructional strategies and for communicating with other educators, program staff, and parents about each student's progress.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI):
    • Deliver targeted reading instruction to K-5 students based on their individual assessment results.
    • Utilize the Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) and MAZE assessments to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement.

  2. Administer and Interpret Assessments:
    • Conduct ORF and MAZE assessments according to the program’s schedule.
    • Accurately analyze assessment data to track student progress and inform instructional practices.
    • Adjust instructional strategies based on ongoing assessment results to ensure student growth.
  3. Classroom Management and Engagement:
    • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters students' confidence and love for reading.
    • Manage classroom behavior effectively to ensure a productive learning atmosphere.
    • Engage students with a variety of instructional strategies that cater to different learning styles.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, progress, and intervention plans.
    • Regularly update student profiles in Trust Central to reflect assessment results and instructional adjustments.
    • Communicate regularly with program staff, parents, and guardians about student progress and any concerns.
  5. Professional Development:
    • Complete mandatory trainings in Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI) Basics, Oral Reading Fluency (ORF), and MAZE.
    • Stay informed about best practices in literacy instruction and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
