Hospital Communication System Operator

Responsible for facilitating proficient operation of a hospital communication system.

Essential functions include:

• Performing various clerical duties and operating computer equipment including the switchboard console, alphamate pager, voice-paging system, portable radios, and cellular telephone and providing information to callers and visitors.
• Handling both incoming and outgoing calls with speed and accuracy.
• Demonstrating familiarity with all code-emergency situations and the appropriate procedure to alert proper personnel and record occurrences as required.
• Acting as central control for mobile pagers, taking and relaying messages as required.
• Responding to various alarm systems located at the switchboard.
• Issuing keys that are kept at the switchboard to authorized personnel. Maintaining an accurate log as to the disposition of these keys.
• Compiling on-call information for hospital personnel and all meetings scheduled in the building.
• Resolving basic discrepancies and referring all others to the appropriate department.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and credentials:

Experience: Customer service or call-center experience 2-3 years preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Good inter-personal and phone skills.
• Commitment to demonstrate consistent outstanding customer service.
• Confident to quickly assess situations and make reasonable judgment decisions.
• Must be able to prioritize rationally.
