Merchandiser Service Technician

Position Purpose This role accelerates business value by ensuring Reddy Ice’s merchandisers are well maintained and functioning properly. The role leads, collaborates, and demonstrates lean principles and leverages tools such as VSM, Kaizen, A3, etc. to support continuous process improvements and create value for customers, employees and shareholders. Duties and Responsibilities Conduct repairs and service calls on ice merchandisers. Complete installations, replacements, and removals of ice merchandisers at customer locations. Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning of ice merchandisers. Work at customer locations, Reddy Ice plants & DCs, and refurbishment centers. Attend company‑sponsored technician trainings and pursue additional trade skills as directed. Ensure vehicles, tools and equipment are in good working order; manage spare‑parts inventory and request supplies as needed. Drive a customer‑centric culture through respectful and consistent communication with customers while promoting outstanding service. Communicate opportunities for SOP improvement to the Field Equipment Service Manager and engage in peer discussions about maintenance best practices via video conference, telephone, and other technology. Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, managers, and the public at all times, including safe vehicle operation and strict adherence to safety requirements. Collaborate in a team environment and assist co‑workers or managers with other duties as needed. Perform any other duties assigned by management. Adhere to the Code of Business Ethics, upholding honesty and integrity. Maintain high safety standards. Essential Mental Functions and Skills Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, without fatigue. Ability to accurately gauge lengths of time and distance. Ability to store and recall instructions in short‑term memory quickly. Ability to concentrate and perform tasks involving high levels of cognitive function and judgment. Ability to cope with sudden changes or emergency situations and respond appropriately. Demonstrate a caring, committed, and safety‑concerned attitude. Possess fast reflexes, unimpaired coordination, and rapid response capability. Not mentally or physically impaired by any condition affecting safe performance of required functions. Ability to take prompt and appropriate response to operating conditions. Supervisory Responsibility None. Education and Experience EPA Type 1 or Universal certification for refrigeration (required). No prior experience required, though experience in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical trade, or similar repair/installation roles is a plus. Valid driver’s license (Operator’s Class C) and acceptable MVR required for use of company vehicle at times. High school diploma, refrigeration trade school certificate or equivalent experience required. Basic computer and handheld skills needed with ability to follow reporting SOPs via handheld. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Minimal travel with potential overnight stays. Weekend, night and holiday work required. Frequent driving between retail stores and plant locations. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and use installation lift equipment. Ability to climb ladders and work with power tools. Overtime may be required. Work conducted in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.
