CWI Certified Weld Inspector

Summary The CWI performs inspections on welded products before, during and after fabrication of all weldments. They recommend welding techniques, check welding specifications, write reports, and conduct assessments to detect faults. They utilize magnification and stress equipment to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards according to blueprints and knowledge of welding. Duties and Responsibilities Inspects and tests welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration. Verifies part conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications, applying knowledge of welding principles and metallurgical properties. Examines joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, using flashlight and magnifying glass. Performs stress tests on joint, using stress testing equipment, or prepares sample for stress testing, and reviews results. Marks defective pieces and recommends methods for reworking. Coordinate with the NDT Manager on required inspection and documentation. Communicate with fabrication department on priorities. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Work Experience High School diploma or GED. AWS Certification required. One to three years related experience and/or training. Five plus years as a MIG/TIG welder. Must be able to maintain CWI status. Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements This position may require a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration. Identifies problems and review relevant information to develop options, then implement the solutions. Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Works effectively with different levels of management, team members and customers. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
