Test Technician

Electrical Panel Tester

This role focuses on conducting detailed testing of electrical controllers and control panels before final approval and shipment to customers. You will follow established procedures, use electrical test equipment, and document all results to ensure panels meet quality and safety standards. The position involves working around potentially energized equipment, so you will consistently use appropriate PPE, follow safety protocols, and adhere to lockout/tagout procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct functional and electrical testing on controllers and control panels prior to final approval and shipment.
  • Monitor testing of panels and controls to verify proper operation and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform thermography testing as required and interpret results according to established procedures.
  • Follow written testing procedures and programs accurately and consistently.
  • Connect and disconnect various cables and electrical connections safely and correctly.
  • Use multimeters, continuity testers, and basic electrical test equipment to verify voltages, continuity, and proper wiring.
  • Identify wiring errors, component failures, and other issues, and escalate or troubleshoot as appropriate.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings to verify that assemblies match design requirements.
  • Document all testing activities using both paper and electronic systems, including computers, logs, cameras, and router sheets.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times when working around energized or potentially energized equipment.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements and maintain a strong focus on electrical and workplace safety.
  • Use quality checklists and inspection criteria to confirm that panels meet quality standards before release.
  • Adhere to production expectations for safety, efficiency, and quality.
  • Use common hand and power tools, including drills and torque tools, as needed during testing and verification.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying and communicating improvement ideas.
  • Apply knowledge of the Red Tag system to identify, tag, and manage nonconforming product or issues.
  • Support 5S and LEAN practices by maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient work area.
  • Operate pallet jacks, including electric pallet jacks, to move materials or panels safely when needed.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to meet daily testing schedules and production goals.
  • Use touchscreen interfaces and testing equipment as part of the testing and documentation process.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting, including the use of multimeters, continuity testers, and basic electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to read voltage measurements and identify wiring errors and component failures.
  • Understanding of electrical safety principles and hazards when working around energized equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
  • Ability to verify work against drawings and ensure assemblies match design requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, including following test procedures exactly and verifying wire numbers, connections, and component placement.
  • Ability to complete accurate and thorough documentation, both paper and electronic.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ability to apply them consistently.
  • Demonstrated PPE compliance and commitment to working safely.
  • Knowledge and experience with mechanical and electrical sub-assembly techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical layout drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and quality checklists.
  • Proficiency in using common hand and power tools, including drills and torque tools.
  • Ability to use pallet jacks, including electric pallet jacks.
  • Basic understanding of daily 5S and LEAN practices.
  • Ability to follow all company safety standards and policies.
  • Capability to meet production expectations for safety, efficiency, and quality adherence.
  • Ability to work both as a team player and independently.
  • Ethical and conscientious work habits.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED training.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in electronics testing or as a tester in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience in electrical assembly, panel building, or control panel wiring.
  • Experience with wire harness assembly, crimping, and electrical wiring.
  • Familiarity with schematic and blueprint reading for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with continuity testing, quality inspection, and troubleshooting.
  • Exposure to PLCs, industrial controls, and automation systems.
  • Experience working with UL panels or similar regulated panel standards.
  • Knowledge and experience using a Red Tag system for nonconforming product or issues.
  • Experience with PCB work and soldering.
  • Comfort using touchscreen interfaces for testing, data entry, or equipment control.
  • Willingness to generate improvement ideas and actively participate in the improvement process.

Work Environment

The role follows an early shift schedule, with a typical start time of 4:00 a.m. and workdays ranging from 8 to 12 hours, including some weekend overtime when needed. You will work in a very clean, organized facility that emphasizes 5S and LEAN practices. The position is primarily performed while seated at a workstation, using touchscreens and testing equipment to perform and document tests. You will work around electrical panels and industrial controls, using PPE and following strict safety and lockout/tagout procedures. The environment includes the use of common hand and power tools, pallet jacks (including electric), and various electrical test instruments, all within a structured and safety-focused production setting.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of Reading, PA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
